Why did Amanda choose these three?

Callie- the popular girl with family mystery
Nia- the overachiever who is a social rebel, yet has the perfect family (so far)
Hal- dork turned hottie with mad art skills

My guess is that they each have traits that the others don’t, so Amanda chose them to be dependent on each other.

the first book was all of them coming Callie becoming independent with the others’ support.  I bet the next will be about one of Hal’s own problems.

    Anybody else have some theories?

In my opinion, I think amanda chose those three because of a distant yet relevant connection between all of them like on how callie used to hang out with hal (don’t know about nia) and what you said being that they each have a trait that the others don’t and could be very useful or it could be that amanda is actually the 3 of them combined meaning she sees more of herself in them than other people that’s why she chose them because they could possibly be the only ones who have the ability to “think” like her therefore find her. (Come to think of it, it’s like paper towns by john green only more deceptively random)

I think Amanda picked them because they are all so different, they have completly different life styles. That means they have experienced totally different things in the past. I think she picked the 3 of them because they all know things that the others don’t. Amanda also lived a completly different life around each of them.

I think Amanda picked them because she wanted Callie, Nia, and Hal to be friends. (Were Nia and Hal friends before the book started?)

I think she picked them because they all have problems ( Callie- mean
    Nia- not much friends
    Hal- Same as Nia)

I think it’s because they each need help. Callie had this whole major family problem, for one. As for Hal and Nia, we just have to wait for Signal from Afar and book three to find out. I highly doubt their lives are as perfect as they may seem, and as happy as Callie perceived them.

I think Amanda likes to help people become better than they are… in some cases better than they ever knew they could be. Whether it’s updating someone’s wardrobe, helping them realise they have talent, or making them stand up for themselves… she makes us better people by encouraging us to dream big.

No-one is perfect, we can all improve. Perhaps in Hal, Callie and Nia’s case, Amanda thought they deserved to see how much better they could be.
