smoke and mirrors is like a colloquial thing. It means like lies, deceit. When someone says, "the whole thing was smoke and mirrors," they generally mean it was all just an act or a disguise.

Love this pic! Although is that really wood? It has a funky texture. Anyway, I think you have a great eye for detail and color. You should do another one of these but super close up. That would be neat. Not, of course, that I know anything about photography.

You find things. The three of you. Callie sees them. Hal feels them. And Nia determines what they are. Isn't that how you solve most of your mysteries? Callie notices something, Hal gets mysterious gut instincts about it, and then Nia does research?

PHENOMENAL I love your attention to detail and shading, and how you didn't go for straight-up realistic, you were dramatic and enthusiastic. This is really great.

Well pharmacy connects to the hospital, and we know some people at the hospital, don't we? Or else hmmm... you know Thornhill's list of names and numbers? Could those have been numbers for prescription orders? I mean, a lot of people are on prescription meds. Maybe he's keeping track of it. Or maybe the pharmacy has nothing to do with it at all. Anyway, are there any other pharmacies of the same corporation nearby? Do you know anyone that works at one of them? You should ask why they are building one in a residential zone. Because that's kind of odd.
