I hope that seeing a "conflicting view" isn't judged offensive here. Here's a poem on the same subject, but through a very different modern culture's eyes. --- CHILDBIRTH She dreams of the time When her people were the lords of Bengla Silk-clad; the owners of many Gaur-cattle Running water in their marble homes. She wakes to no such luxury On the side of a road with no curb Dust-clad; the owner of one tattered dress She eats a piece of bread, and grass stems. Her belly is round With a souvenir Of some suit-clad stranger's Affection for two hours. This will be her third child. Each babe she bears Is the holy gift Of Sita, of Shasti and most-blessed Bhavani. Does she even know The town where she lives Has eight times too many people For surrounding lands to feed? Does it matter to her That this little one Will, most likely, not live past the age of five months? Yes, she knows. She knows, she knows, she knows. But she does it anyways, For it is the will of the Gods. By age 50, she will be far too old To sell her body to strangers To beg at the rail station Or even just to walk. If a son or daughter makes good, they may support her. Someday. Each little one Is a living lottery ticket. Sent to her by Kali The Conqueror of Time, The Goddess of Fertility, Death and Regeneration Even if they are only ever beggars, The more children she has, the more the burden of her care Shall be spread between them. When they die, she weeps, feels sorrow, like any other mom. But she knows that every child goes on to its next incarnation. It's a feeling she has inside, Thus she knows this to be true. Praised be the wisdom of the Gods. Perfect is all they have wrought.

Anybody got any ideas where our heroes can get information on missing dogs that doesn't involve hacking or breaking-and-entering??

_NOTE: On December 2, 2009, animal control officer Jermaine Barnes, age 37, had seized a dog on Pontiac Avenue in Brooklyn (part of Baltimore). He received an anonymous call that someone was keeping five dogs in a house on E. Patapsco Avenue. (It is illegal, in Baltimore, to keep more than two dogs without a kennel license.) While he was filling out paperwork in the car, someone shot Officer Barnes from the driver's side window, and he was hit in the hand. While he was in the hospital, he was visited by Baltimore's mayor, Ms. Sheila Dixon. _

The pop-ups aren't automatic. They ask the player if they want to 'publish' or 'skip'. Ask your friend nicely, "Please click skip instead, because I don't play but it's cluttering up my Wall." SOME of the pop-ups are "share the wealth" type: if a player clicks it, they get a lot of coins for free. So if you Publish those, you're doing your friends who happen to play, a BIG favor. I gotta agree, though: clicking Publish on EVERY FarmVille pop-up is a kinda "noob" thing to do. ;b

I tried hard to ignore it but my friends kept asking me if I friended them yet. I found out last week that a very important professional discussion was going on... via FarmVille messages. ("Hello, I fertilized your strawberries, here's some poinsettias I grew, and by the way, I've decided that 70/30 split on revenues will be fine; expect the contract via UPS tomorrow.") There are now more FarmVille players than people using Twitter.

Thanks! You make me want to write more!

Ooh thanks! None of my fiction has ever been published. You're the first to see these tales. My next one comes back from "Planet Boy" to "Planet Girl" but one of the Snakes is in it.

That was one true beautiful poem! I'm grateful you shared with us. For Heidi to go overseas, she'd need a passport, and to get that, she'd have needed ID. Getting all that together would probably take her cooperation. I'm guessing it was against the law for him to take her without her mother's permission, but maybe that was where she _most_ wanted to be. Her mom must still feel terrible! :( I really really really hope she's with her dad, because then, at least, we'd know she's safe. Wherever she is, I'm sure of this much: she's thinking of you, and she misses you too.
