It’s in the Cards, Or is it?

Amanda used to say we may not be Fate's puppets, but we certainly aren't her puppeteers. She used this deck of cards to tell people about their personalities or paths – I think she made them from items she found in thrift stores – and I swear they were infused with some sort of supernatural mojo.

The first time I saw her give a "reading" – not all Madame Zara with a funny accent or anything, just regular Amanda – was to Casey M in Biology before the bell rang. It was kind of freaky. Ok. Really freaky. Casey drew three cards: the first two… fine; the third... crickets chirping. It was a broken cuckoo clock: your time is up. No one had ever drawn that card, Amanda said. I thought she looked a little freaked but of course, Amanda being Amanda, she made up a brilliant explanation that Casey was doomed to be tardy to second period every day for a week. She then recited that scene from Clueless where the cute surfer guy accepts his award for tardiness and thanks everyone who contributed, including "the wonderful crew from McDonalds who spend hours making those egg McMuffins."  I think Casey bought it, too.

A week later, Casey's dad died. Amanda retired that card... she said karma didn't need any help.

Am I crazy to be wigged out by this, or does this kind of bizarro stuff actually happen?

OMG - you have got to chill. Haven’t you ever heard of a little thing the free world likes to call coincidence? I’m all for this website and helping find Amanda, but not if every iota becomes a conspiracy.

    • Liza

SuperChk, you’re kidding, right? Because there’s no way you can think that everything going on in Orion has been a coincidence. Or maybe you do. And maybe your mom dropped you on your head as a baby.

Hey - no need for the harshness. I totes buy into these oracle cards being the real deal, especially if they were Amanda’s.

I def believe in fate and a big cosmic plan. There’s just too much strange stuff that weirds me out for there not to be an explanation. Take, for instance, last month when I was on vacation with my family in Panama City, FL. I was in the mall – some random mall, not super famous like Mall of America or anything – and I hear my name being called. HUH? It turned out that one of my friends from first grade was there with her softball team. She moved when we were 8 so I haven’t seen or talked to her in 5 years and we both end up in the same mall in FLA on the same day at the same time? And the most freaky thing is that I had just had a dream about her, tripping and falling into my castle cake at my 6th party. Which absolutely happened. Too weird for there not to be an explanation. At least I think so.

This is Amanda, alright - exactly the kind of voodoo stuff she’d come up with and then weird the rest of us out. what a freak.

p.s. I wonder if her trusty cards predicted she’d disappear. LOL!

          • theresaax2

Amanda is a strange one-who knows, she may have supernatural powers. Of course, the card said your time is up-not your dad’s. So maybe a coincidence? Unless it’s your time with your dad is up…

            • peanut_butter

I don’t think the cards CAUSED Casey’s dad to die.  Cards don’t have the ability to make things happen.  I think that tarot cards (even though I don’t take them seriously) might be able to predict things that already are, but don’t actually cause things to happen.  Either way, though, I think that such coincidences can happen.

              • Odd

There’s a definite crossroad here for me. Part of me wants to think it’s a total coincidnce, that the card had nothing to do with anything. But the supernatural is out there…I don’t know. Like Peanut said, I don’t think the card caused the death, but I think that fate mixed with Casey’s choice of card. It sounds stupid, I know, but there are forces out there…Maybe Casey needed that time to think about death and what it would mean..I’m not saying her dad had to die to put it in perspective, no one needs that, But um…

I don’t know. I’d be freaked out too.

who knows amanda was always kinda strange .. and even though i dont believe in the kind of stuff with amanda anything is possible!

                  • Sabrina

It’s true, I am sure it is.  Maybe you might not be able to tell by looking at me, little miss pink and perfect, but I am actually very religious.  Christian Wiccan.  Don’t you dare say it doesn’t exist or I will hurt you, well not me, Charles will hurt you.  That means that I am like really into the whole spiritual stuff so yah, I totally believe this.

that is so not a coincidence. I dont really believe in that type of stuff but it had to be a sign from some where.

                      • dem_94

I agree with p_b and odd. I don’t think the cards caused Casey’s dad’s death, I think they predicted it. I don’t really believe in fortune telling, but I do believe there is a supernatural force out there.

The broken cuckoo clock meant your time was up, not your father’s time is up so maybe this was just a coincidence? I don’t know….

                        • urban_hippie

Ok, I’m pretty sure that this all just coincidence. We need to calm down. It’s just coincidence! Seriously! What are the odds anyway? Like, a million to one maybe?

                          • themidnighter

Maybe Casey’s father’s time is over in the real word. You know what they say when it’s your time it’s your time. That has nothing to do with the cards.

                            • aGirlLikeMe

I think that is a little weird. I’m sorry that Casey’s father died but I don’t believe it had anything to do with the cards and Amanda.

How well did Amanda know Casey? Is it possible that she knew Casey’s father was going to die?

Because if she did…the card game was a pretty nasty trick to play.

                                • moonprincess

I don’t think there’s such a thing as coincidence. The cards could be considered a warning, to be careful in the upcoming future. I wonder how Casey’s father died, maybe it could’ve been prevented? I feel bad about the cards, though, it wasn’t Amanda’s fault…

                                  • Kewpie83

I know some pretty good Tarot card readers and, while the cards are pretty good about knowing what might happen, they don’t cause it to happen.  If she pulled the cards, it was a warning about what might happen.  Amanda had nothing to do with what happened.  The cards told her something might.

                                    • elc2010

Those cards are scary business. She asked me once if I wanted to try it. I turned her down.
but the fact that something like that happened to Casey just makes me think that something is wrong

                                      • Kewpie83

I just remembered something—wasn’t she reading her cards at one of those fair’s downtown?  My friend Margo got a reading from her.  Amanda told her she’d gain something, then lose something.  Well, she gained a 10 dollar bill she found that night, and then sprained her ankle walking home right before her gymnastics competition.  Could have won some medals, if she hadn’t hurt herself…

I didn’t put two and two together until today.  That’s some pretty powerful cards she messes with!

Those cards change nothing, you just know whats gonna happen. Anyone seen bedtime stories? Nothing is what you expect, I meant, we’re only human, we can’t get everything right. And the future is sorta set in stone. We don’t really know it so we can’t really change it. Like in books, the characters have no clue whatsoever as to whats gonna happen but it still happens.

                                          • _Bex_

To quote the Harry Potter series, “What’s coming will come, and we’ll just have to meet it when it does.” The events of the future aren’t something we can control - everything that happens is caused by a massive chain of cause-and-effect relationships, and while changing our behaviors may change some possible future, the future depends on so many things that one person can’t guarantee a certain event happening or not happening. It’s not the events we can change, it’s our reactions that matter. And if the cards help prepare for that, then that’s great; however, the cards may be misleading…

there is no way that cards could change the future…........they might be able to predict wat will happen but they dnt make it happen these things are already set in stone…......

                                              • Ashley

and trying to change the future can just make it happen, no one knows what variables are involved.

true, like for example, if you think that you are sick you convince your body that you are and then get sick…....

                                                  • FlyingAway

It also could be, in a weird way if any of you guys get this, that but trying to change or predict the future, you’ve already helped happen what would already happen.

Like.. well, ok. There’s this book called Enchantment. In Enchantment, Ivan lives in 1999. He gets transported back to 850 AD. He know about this time, he’s studied and and everything and he keeps thinking in terms like ‘No, that hasn’t happened yet. He crosses over in 890 AD’ and things like that. He’s also wondering how what he does there would change the future. But no matter what he does, the modern world is the same. It’s saying ‘To get the modern world we know, Ivan HAD to go back in time.’

                                                    Does anyone else get it?

                                                    • stef_stone

I get it…I know Casey and he said it was a complete accident..so maybe Amanda’s prediction did have something to do with it.

                                                      • DarkCharlotte

So here’s what I think about tarot cards. My friends and I like to do them all the time at slumber parties. And we realized that people can interpret cards in different ways. If you get one card, you’ll think about all the things in your life that it could be connected to. Truthfully every card that you get could probably be related to your life, that doesn’t mean it changes it. Tarot cards are fun, but shouldn’t be taken too seriously. Although I must admit that I do believe in ghosts and supernatural stuff, I think sometimes people believe what they want to beleive.

*laughs* This is EXACTLY the sort of thing Amanda would say. Only she would predict something like that, and only she would have had the sight to see the unfortunate event of Casey’s father’s death. She was always the type to know more than she let on to.

                                                          • Mexly

Oh it happens it may sound crazy but only because most don’t get things can connect in ways beyond reason. Like i predicted a thing or two about my future or others and it came true like how my friend was going to fall off a cliff (don’t worry she lived), that my two friends while i moved away would develop a more then ‘friends’ relationship (to my dispare). Anyway i’m a believer in the mystical and magic as a superstious person and i like the idea that this weird stuff happens.

I’ve got to agree with Mexly on this one. I’ve made some predictions myself ( I have really strange dreams) and fortunately or unfortunately for me: they’ve come true. I don’t really believe that all things are explainable, especially since I drew from Amanda’s deck, my future just wasn’t as…ominious. I drew the ring card. Telling me that I’m going to wake up one day and find my prince charming only to run off and get married. Makes me wonder if all of Amanda’s predictions were so fool proof?

All my other students should be envious of that work of art!).  Near the end of the period she gave one of the other students a ‘reading’, I don’t clearly remember what the cards were of but she predicted that the future would start to become very difficult for his family.  A month or so later his family had to leave their house because they couldn’t make the payments anymore.  I’m not sure if this is coincidence or if it is really because of the cards, all I know is that those sorts of things are powerful and shouldn’t be messed with.

Anyways, this is not a coincidence. Somehow Amanda knows things that she shouldn’t and no one knows how she gets the info. But she knew Casey had it coming. Casey must have done something bad, and karma is coming her way. This is far from coincidencs, because around Orion, and if you know Amanda, you know nothing happens without there being a reason for it.

I thought they were regular tarot cards so I asked her to do a reading for me. She told me that they weren’t tarot cards, but I was okay with it. We just needed something to do before class started. She told me to draw a card, and I pulled out this weird looking checkered one with a zipper running across it. She looked at it and shrugged. I asked her what it meant, and she just told me that I should stop lying to myself. I remember asking her if there were more to it, but she told me that she didn’t want to pry into my fate.

Casey probably did it herself, and Amanda saw what she wasn’t supposed to see. So back off, it isn’t murder or anything like that.

And they all are right on the nose! I just moved to a new town, so the kids here kind of lock me out, just like the card says. And my parents seem to be in control of a annoyingly large part of my life and I feel like I want to be more in control so the Easel card was perfect. And there’s a boy I like and he ignores me all the time and I was just about to give up when the Skeleton Key card said to peruse what makes you happy, no matter what! Cool! Freaky, but cool!

The cards tells the truth, so what I’m trying to say is that, it may be the truth or a coincedence. It may seem creaper and all, but there’s no changing the future, some things just has to come, my thoughts are that it’s the truth, not saying that I always should believe any fortune telling people, just that it seems so real, unless if she knew something that was suppost to happen before she ‘read’ Casey…

I think I agree with Tai most. I’ve noticed at least several times that I’ll think of a song, or a TV episode and then it’ll come on, or something similar. I told this to a friend and she asked me what my Zodiac sign is, but pointed out that not all people believe in this. Weird things happen, and I try to keep a slightly open mind to it. We must consider all clues while we search.
