Where’s a Marauder’s Map When You Need One?

northeast wing map

Hi cyber friends – it's Cornelia.

After reading the super smart suggestions from themidnighter and Nohanna1126, Hal asked if I could figure out a way into the school's computer system to get a map of the venting highway our mysterious friend uses to get around. This is a public forum and I don't know what kind of teachers' eyes are out there, so let's keep the details blurry, ok? I will say, however, that my brother is super lucky to have me. He should keep that in mind at my birthday. The only thing that matters is that we have a map of the only part of the ventilation system connected to the northeast wing where the secret room is (the current dusty renovation that has everybody sneezing and itchy-eyed cuts the ducts off from the rest of the school).

If I'm reading this thing correctly, it looks like there's an air duct opening out by the bunkers, one where that pipeline meets the gym, one in the girls' locker room, one under the bleachers near the soccer fields, one in the auditorium, and one right outside of the band hall. That last one is obviously the secret room our mystery chick—has to be a girl, who else would wear raspberry lip gloss (good thinking AwesomeAnna93!) —is using based on my brother's description. Since my brother, Callie, and Nia closed off the doorway to the secret room and sealed it back up the way they found it to cover their tracks, that air duct is the only way in and out.

So, the way I see it, if we post sentries at each of these places, we'll be able to catch mystery chick the next time she enters or exits. That means we'll need 6 folks (2 at each post, plus Callie and Nia, and my brother as a floater) with eagle eyes to play stakeout. If you're interested, email me (cornelia at theamandaproject.com) and we'll take the first volunteers. (Must be democratic...this is America, after all.) Weekend shifts are possible, and before- and after-school hours seem important. Does that seem right?

That's what I'm thinking, at least. We stake out the joint (lol – they kind of are literally "joints" because of where the pipes meet) and catch her when she least expects it.

Looking at the map where all these ducts open, how do we do this without spooking our prey? Hide in plain sight? Any thoughts?

    Well, I’m up for it!

    • Callieluver

Maybe wait around hidden until you see someone go through or look at the door mysteriously.

      • urban_hippie

Well, maybe hiding in plain sight. Preferably with a book and pretending to listen to an iPod or something. Or doing “homework”. It could work. You never know what could happen.

        • Callieluver

          Yes, “Homework”. Muhaaha

This is so exciting!!! I don’t know if I can volunteer (I have dance practice everyday after school, and rehearsals for a big recital that’s coming up over the weekend) BUT maybe I can help out in a different way. I know the auditorium really well, and I’m definitely acquainted with that air vent. It’s backstage - stage right. Whenever I’m waiting in the wings it is always FREEZING back there. Anyhow, there are TONS of places to hide. My top two suggestions would be A) in the costume racks (most are stored right around there), or B) in the giant prop trunk (if you’re on the smaller side). Hope that helps! xo Ashlee

            • stef_stone

I definitely can volunteer! I’m thinking that we should hide near the vents but concealed…like behind a wall or something.

              • dem_94

Some people should be completely hidden and some in plain site. We don’t want to scare our mystery girl away, but we also don’t want it obviously that we’re spying on her. I like the idea of pretending to do homework, or listening to an iPod. That would help us disguise ourselves. We should defiantly check out Ashlee411’s ideas for hiding places. They sound really good.

I would love to volunteer, but my computer won’t let me see the link. ):

                  • SuperChk

My suggestion to hide in plain site—at least for the two outdoor spots like the bunkers and the soccer fields—is to find the perfect spot of grass, and get a book, place the book over your face, pretend to sleep, and watch from there.  Of course the risk if you are me: that I really will fall asleep, but I think I would be so pumped to see who this that I wouldn’t!  That’s my thought!!

                    • Krystal2295

yea my computer wont let me see the link too. i would love to volunteer

                      • Krystal2295

wait. what about the restricted access part of the map. maybe the other side of the door is in there

                        • Cornelia Bennett

Oops! Sorry about that. The code was funky in some browsers. I took out the link - definitely email me at cornelia at theamandaproject.com if you’re interested in volunteering. (ps - cool stakeout ideas so far. Anyone have any good spots for the locker room? I don’t know it since I’m over in the jr high gym.)

                          • CheekyMonkey

I definitely agree withe Krystal. The restricted area is probably where this room is. Hiding in plain sight is a great idea. I would be more than happy to practice piano in the band room during the stake out, to keep an eye there. We should absolutely have someone kicking a ball around on the JV field and for the locker room, how about a girl with a fake cast taking along time to get dressed?

                            • Fashionista

I’m probably too late to be an official volunteer, but all I know is that I will definitely be on those bleachers EVERY DAY next week after school watching the boys varsity soccer team practice! <3 <3 <3 <3 GO TEAM CISCO!!!!!! (Sorry Nia, but your brother is seriously the hottest guy *EVER*). Anyhow, if I can tear my eyes off the field, I’ll check out the vent under the bleachers and report back.

Well, someone could just pretend to sit by the doorway of the girls locker room hiding in plain site. Remember, “homework” or iPod, reading. Honestly though, it would seem as if she really does go through the girls locker room because it’s the fastest way there but, we should be looking for a place wherein she wouldn’t be seen. I’m thinking the auditorium is our best shot.

                                • urban_hippie

Seriously though, girls are going in and out of the backstage area. Ashlee411 said it herself, they’re always there rehearsing. This mystery girl of ours could seem like just another girl to them going backstage and no one would care. She is also literally hiding in plain sight among us. We just need to find out who she is..

                                  • Ursula

I volunteer to dress up like a construction crew member. That way I can be anywhere.

Why not set up video cameras? They would have to be hidden but that would be easy enough…

                                      • stef_stone

My dad works at the electronics store, so I could probably borrow some small video cameras! Little_Star, do you want to come with me to set them up? Where does everyone think we should put them?

                                        • Little_Star

Sure, it sounds like fun! we could put them in a locker or if they were small enough the vent system itself…

                                          • stef_stone

Okay totally. Let’s meet at the school today and install them. Then we can go back to my dad’s shop and watch the footage.

                                            • Little_Star

Sweet! I’m excited to see what we find!

                                              • stef_stone

We’ll post again in an hour or two with our findings so everyone can find out.

                                                • Cornelia Bennett

Little_Star & stef_stone - great idea about the video cameras! (sooooo cool that your dad runs an electronics store. I’m seriously jealous.) We’re still coordinating the stakeout, do you guys want to officially volunteer? We’re meeting tomorrow at an undisclosed location (super spy style) to plan strategy. If you’re into it, send me an email (cornelia at theamandaproject.com) and I’ll send you more instructions. Over and out. ~ Cornelia B

Thanks! I’l definetly volunteer…maybe I can show you the footage we got at the meeting? It’s pretty weird!

Well, I have to say it says a lot about whoever our mystery person is that they’re willing to use the vents to get around. Not for a million dollars would I risk my nails doing that - I mean, if I needed a million dollars.

                                                      • Little_Star

                                                        i volunteer too!

                                                        • Cornelia Bennett

Awesome! Little_Star - send me an email (cornelia at the amandaproject.com) so I can reply with instructions :)

I’m with Cora. Well, I don’t have nails or a million dollars but crawling around in a dusty vent?  Pullleassee….. it sounds as revolting as camping only without the s’mores.

                                                            • CoraSheffield

Plus whoever it is is probably pretty skinny and all, so we have someone to look out for.
There might be nails or something in the vents so maybe whoever it is left a snag of their jeans or something behind?

                                                              • lolster15

What if ‘she’ gets past us? Even if we stake out all the exits, maybe ‘she’ knows something we don’t?

Anyway, I’m willing to help in any way I can.

I think we should check out the “proposed gym expansion” which is under construction. Because the one we’re finding can easily go in and out of the “gym” because, simply, it’s UNDER CONSTRUCTION.

                                                                  • CoraSheffield

                                                                    • dem_94

I’ve been analizing all the info I found, and I’m sad to say it isn’t much. I was underneath the bleachers; homework, iPod, and blanket in hand by 5:00am. I found a comfortable spot (without the half-eaten food scattered everywhere. Seriously guys, find somewhere else to put your gum and popcorn) I didn’t see anyone out of the ordinary. Actually, I didn’t see anyone besides the varsity football team practicing. I resisted the urge to stare at them (though I must admit I took a few peeks) and focused on my task.

I was all hyped up and ready to find our mystery girl, but come on! I woke up at 4 a.m. so I could get there early enough! I was dead tired, and I fell asleep for a few hours. When I woke up, everything seemed quiet. Nothing was out of place, but I have this nagging feeling that I missed something big. I feel awful about falling asleep, and missing what I’m sure was important. Did anyone else have any better luck?

                                                                      • stef_stone

Hey everyone! Stefanie Stone here. I just wanted to update you all about the video footage that I collected and the stakeout. I was stationed INSIDE a locker in the girls locker room before school. Scary, right? Anyways, it was too dark inside the locker to get any video footage there, and the footage from the vents was too dark also. All I got was a moving figure across the screen a few times. Oh well. I did hear some more about the I Girls personal lives (I hate them!) while inside the locker, but nothing relating to Amanda or the mystery girl.

                                                                        • urban_hippie

Ok, so I made sure to get to school early. I even went to bed at 7PM just so I could wake up at 5AM. There were no cars on the road so I was able to get to school pretty early. I was stationed by the bunkers. I arrived with my big blanket, and unfortunately I forgot food and I forgot to eat breakfast. So it’s cold, it’s dark, it’s scary, and I was hungry. Luckily, I had my cell with me so I called Hal and he brought me some delicious Pop-Tarts. Nom nom nom! Yummy food. Moving on, so Hal leaves and once again, I’m on my own. Next thing I know I hear this crackling of leaves, like someone was walking. I go to investigate and little old me was scared and I found some old baseball bat on the ground that has probably been there since forever. So, I keep walking and out of nowhere a raccoon pops out of nowhere. So I calm down a bit next thing I know, it’s starts peeing on my white shoes, then it jumps up onto my legs and scratches at my jeans. I managed to kick it off. But then I heard more leaf crackling, but I just assumed it was the raccoon. By then it was almost time for class so I had to leave. All in all, I got nothing whatsoever. I hope somebody else had more luck than me.

                                                                          • Krystal2295

Ok so i was able to stay after school till seven thirty by telling the ‘rents that i was getting extra help with my math lessons. i was stationed under the bunkers near the track field. i didnt see or hear anything out of the ordinary. around seven i started to hear foot steps. they were coming closer and closer. i thought maybe this was the mystery girl coming to sneak back into her hideout. i jumped out of my hiding spot ready to catch what she looked like on my camera. oh boy was i wrong! it was the track team coming back in from an extended practice who was suprised to find me snapping away on my camera. i screamed with embarrasment and run away, my cover blown. Hopefully someone else had better luck.

                                                                            • AwesomeAnna93

So this morning I got up super early to go to the publicity commitee meeting to make posters for the bake sale. First of all, I’m totally not a morning person. I hate being up that early. Besides being super tired, I was like super hungry too. Then, Clumsy Cora Bryant, spills a tube of glitter on me so now I have to spend the rest of the day glittering like a first-grader’s art project.  After like hours of hard work and labor, Heidi Bragg shows up like a few seconds before the meeting gets over and when Principal Singh comes in, Heidi takesss allllll the credit. GRRRRR!!! That girl peeves me.  Her story was like that she was there since 5 am working on posters and even brought cupcakes for all the other students.  And to top it all off, I didn’t even see the mystery girl drop out of the vent.  =[

On the bright side of my day, Callie brought me a bagel and a coffee coolatta and left it in my locker. Thanks Callie. You’re Awesome! =]

Gosh. I really hope one of us find the mystery girl soon.

                                                                              • Little_Star

I was sitting in the girl’s locker room after school, with a handy disguise provided by themidnighter, (thanks BTW!) so I was sitting there pretending to nurse my fake injuries I got from basketball practice, which I must say I achieved spectacularly, I mean seriously, I was pretty amazing. That being said and having convinced the nurse I had actually injured myself and just needed to sit down for a while, I was ready for the stake out. I turned my ipod on and pretended to read my history book, but unfortunately, exhaustion due to practice and staying up late studying for finals (When will they ever go away?!) I fell asleep. I only woke up when I heard loud noises coming from the vent, I stood up with excitement and quickly learned that my legs tend to fall asleep when tied together with bandages for 3 hours. I fell over immediately and actually hurt my ankle! I also found out that it’s surprising to see who helps someone in need and who doesn’t. I won’t name anyone, but you know who you are.

                                                                                • charlotte92

                                                                                  • stef_stone

                                                                                    • lolster15

Ok, so I was standing in the Girl’s Locker room - I’m a student teacher, so I don’t have to teach a lot, so I have a lot of free time - after just having done a run round one of the soccer fields, and was about to take a shower. Suddenly, I heard this crashing noise, like somebody was falling over a lot. I looked all around the locker rooms, but couldn’t see anyone. Do you think that was the mystery girl? Why was she falling over?

Have person(s) stand near every entrance to every vent in the school then find a way to get into them and crawl your way to the center of all the vents.
Also take some flashlights, rope, and cameras.  And if you have a couple people to spare have them stationed in or near the secret room.
I’m sure this mission would use roughly 6-8 people.

                                                                                        • charlotte92

                                                                                              • CheekyMonkey

I was stationed in the band room. I didn’t find anything about Amanda or the mystery chick, but I DID find where the band teacher hides his stash of Oreos. (My breakfast lunch and dinner for a couple of days.) So basically I went to school everyday at six (ugg). In the mornings, because I figured it was too early to play without getting discovered, I stared writing a song. Inspired by Amanda, it is a song about being your own person, in your own image. In the afternoons, I played keyboards, Hal came by and we practiced together some of the time. (We got really good at his new song and Radiohead’s House of Cards.) Nia brought me crullers and hot chocolate and Callie stopped in once or twice.

The only noise I heard was this big crack from out in the hall. I ran out, all excited that I had found the one on our most wanted list. It turned out to be some skater doing a trick apparently way beyond his abilities. He eventually had to go to the nurse with a busted nose via locker. Not exactly sneaky. I am gonna go out on a limb here and say that was not our girl. I am willing to stay in here, though, if we want to keep going with the stake out. Snacks are great.

                                                                                                • theresaax2

I arrived at school early and sat on the far side of the auditorium.  I took a seat, and took out the script for Anne Frank, the next play at the school, as to appear I’m studying for the role. The auditorium, which usually only has 3 or 4 people in it, surprisingly had about 9 people hanging out in it, which was very strange. I kept an eye on the vent however, and it hadn’t been moved. I got a little distracted in my reading, I’m sorry to say, and when I looked up a girl was running, looking rushed, covered in dust. I tried to seem unalarmed, and, recognizing her from english class, I asked her how she did on the Macbeth exam. She apologized and said she couldn’t talk because she needed to clean the flour off her from making cookies for the bake sale. Then, realizing I had assumed wrong, I went back to pretending to read. The people in the auditorium we’re so distracting. They all seemed to be hiding something. A noticed a girl covered in dirt, and, wondering if it was from the vent, I eavesdropped on her and her friends. I couldn’t hear anything about a ‘room’ or ‘vents’, but she did seemed worried someone’d find out about something. Then, a boy walked in, covered in dirt to. Well, based on what I heard, two people had been secretly meeting under the bleachers. I’ll keep their names a secret.
Besides learning to be careful making cookies and some new gossip about classmates, I failed in learning about the girl in the vents. Sorry such a long story for no results…

Hahahaha. Anyways, when I was playing with my apps I heard footsteps, I thought it was just the drama club, you know getting stuff… So I didn’t mind them in anyway. I continued flipping through my music and all, when I heard it again. This time I had the effort to look…

I think it’s a cool idea Cora! I just wonder if a person, a video, camera, AND the mystery girl would all fit in there? LOL:)
