First off, AwesomeAnna93...awesome is right. You've broken this one wide open. And not a moment too soon.
Everybody is going nuts around here. This morning in English, I saw two kids, Tamara and Ana, accusing each other of being the Spirit. Those two have been BFFs forever but Ms. Felton had to separate them with a threat of being sent to the office like they were still in kindergarten. Each was convinced the other was going to spill a lifelong secret.
We started to look into AwesomeAnna93's idea and found out that the school's PA (like the file room, the library card catalog, and most of the teachers) is way old school (no pun intended). We thought you guys were totally right that the Spirit is digitally hijacking the system, but with evidence against us, we went with Willow's suggestion and decided to check out the microphone in the office.
Hal went into the office and sweet-talked the assistants into letting him poke around. After "clumsily" knocking a pencil behind Ms. Leong's desk, he was able to find out that the microphone wire runs through the wall and out into the hall. We followed it along the ceiling and into the a/v room which, of course, was locked. And thus we were thwarted, at least temporarily.
Anyhow, the three of us were standing outside the room, with Nia fuming about how typical it is that nobody in charge had even thought to try such an obvious solution (I think she's just mad because she got written up for being in the halls when the last message went out) when we heard the chimes. And then:
"Me again, Endeavor. A certain sophomore class officer carries a cooler bag with him everywhere. That's not so unusual. What's unusual is that inside, he keeps a pet goldfish that has been his good luck charm since he was ten. Can't go anywhere without Homer.
"But the thing is that goldfish just don't live that long. When his fish dies, his parents wait until he's asleep and replace the dead goldfish with a new one. Until now, he's never known."
We could hear an agonized groan down the hall. It must have been the classroom that Sam Kahn was in. I felt really bad for him. As big of an arrogant jerk as the ever-swaggering Sammy is, this Spirit was far worse.
"What don't you know, Endeavor? Maybe you'll find out tomorrow."
Believe me, we waited outside that room as long as possible, but no one ever came out.
