Hey guys, it’s Cornelia again. Hal (who seems to think “little sister” means “personal secretary”) sent me out to the library this week to do some Amanda research. Because lots of you guys (stef_stone and RRRules) think that Amanda sold some of her art to get the $2,500 (wow, that’s a lot of money!) and because Orion is such a small town (meaning boring!) Hal figured it might be useful to go through the Orion newspaper archives to see if anything turned up there So, instead of studying for my history test (I mean, I feel like I already know everything I need to know about the Roman Empire) I spent the week sifting through piles of newspapers. Since no one really knows when she got her hands on the money, I started from the day Amanda disappeared and worked backwards. (I’m with marycaulf, I think Amanda knew about what was going on at Callie’s and got the money weeks before).
Wedged between the two last shelves in the basement, I began to realize how little people are interested in past Orion news. I couldn’t blame them. Each paper had the same old stories: Garbage Route Enforces Recycling… PTA Organizes Flea Market, Neighbors Complain New Apartment Buildings Ruin Skyline…Bank Opens New Wing to Expand Customer Service… I was dirty from sitting on the floor, sneezy from sniffing all the dust, and beginning to get super frustrated when I spotted a flash of color in the gray pages of the Orion Sentinel. And there it was, just a skinny little section in the Arts & Leisure section, except someone had drawn a border in purple ink around the headline and text. I didn’t know what else to do—I tore the page from the paper, stuffed the rest of it back in the archive and slipped away, sure some sensor would blare or something. When I got home my heart was pounding, not only from violating the library laws, but because I was so sure I had found something. When Hal read it, his face got all weird for a second and then he said he had a “weird feeling” about it. I am posting it here to see what you guys think.
