Trickster Tagging

OMG, lots going on this time around. Kinda makes me dizzy, so let me throw out what I know about Laure if it helps:

I caught up with her after school to find out more about that day in Paris with Amanda. I mean, what a dream come true, right? We walked around the Community College campus where (thanks again, AwesomeAnna93!) she lives—she really wants to help, but I discovered that my French is much better on paper than in real life. Fortunately her English is amazing.

That morning in Paris, she had been visiting her uncle in his lab. Turns out Em2013 is right: even though part of the old orphanage has been converted to a museum, the below-ground levels are private research space.

Waiting for the elevator back up to the street, Laure saw Amanda (“Visiting a family friend,” Amanda claimed). Amanda had a sheet of stickers with her and stuck one on the emergency call button in the elevator as they got in. It cracked Laure up—I guess Amanda even stuck one on the back of Laure’s black cropped jacket. They started babbling away in French and then just spilled out onto the street together.

So they stopped at a cafe. When they took off their coats, Amanda had a small bandage on her shoulder. Laure asked about it, but then Amanda casually peeled it off and there wasn’t even a mark underneath. What’s up with that?

They had one of those strange, random Amanda days: sneaking into a storage room at the Musee d’Orsay, Amanda reading Laure’s oracle cards in the Père Lachaise (remember SarahSchafer’s comment from the train schedule clue?), drinking so much coffee they were shaking when they hugged each other goodbye at the Abbesses metro station.

Laure turned back and saw Amanda tagging a coyote in the stairwell leading into the station. Amanda smiled and winked, and after she left, Laure took a picture.

Then Laure told me the weirdest piece of the afternoon: a man with a blocked number called Laure’s mobile and asked for Amanda in French. Amanda took the phone and just said things in English like, “Indeed,” “I see,” “Will do,” and looked pretty annoyed. Laure tried to ask about it but Amanda shrugged it off. BIZARRE. Who could possibly know where Amanda was at that exact moment?

Who called Amanda and why? And what about those stickers?

she sounded all very helpful ... but can we really trust her?    she always sits on the table in the corner near where me and my friends sit in the cafeteria .... she just sits there alone, she never eats just sits there ... but sometimes she get out a notebook and ive seen her writing really long paragraphs ... could they be about Amanda?    Amanda used to watch me do cheerleading practice on the field, then she’d come sit with me in the locker rooms and waited for me to get changed, we had some really weird but funny conversations….. i hope we find her soon, i haven’t laughed the same since….

Okay so I think That for the time being we should trust Laure.I didn’t get a clear veiw at #7 Holder St. So how can we be sure? I do think that we should be careful around her though-you never know right?Should we try to receive the missing information from her permanent record though? I can break into th school again. Opinion please? Also new info George Valentino, name mean anything to you? I will tell you later g2g

I haven’t had the chance to talk to Laure yet and we only have Biology together too. So I don’t see her often. What she said sounded interesting.

I was thinking on the picture. Why a Coyote? Does it has a meaning? So, I looked up on the net and this is what i found on animal symbolism (http://www.princetonol.com/grOUpS/iad/leSsons/MidDLe/animals2.htm):

Coyote - Prankster, insight, playful. The coyote symbolizes duality and the ability to present both sides of an issue. Clowning and humor, perhaps sarcastic.

The description reminded me kind a bit of Amanda. I always thought she was a bit playful. Regarding the other stuff Laure said. I have no idea.

LolaStar111, no offense, but i think it’s judgmental to think Laure can’t be trusted because she sits by herself and writes “long paragraphs.” I mean, she’s in a foreign country, in a strange school where she has to make sure she speaks English well enough to get by the classes (not that that’s a problem for her), where the people she knows she’s only known for a few weeks. I think it isn’t a coincidence that Laure shows up at the same school as Amanda after she disappears, but i don’t think it’s anything to be suspicious about. The stickers? IDK. the bandage thing is totally an Amanda quirk (bandages for the sake of bandages is the funnest thing in the world, BTW!). I think Amanda sent Laure here as some kind of clue, and we have to just wait it out till the meaning is revealed.

          • Tiger_Eye

If someone called Laure couldn’t she call them back??? And maybe the stickers mean something, like if she put a Coyote sticker on the emergency button, could that mean the Amanda needs help?

            • dem_94

I don’t think the emergecy button means anything special, I think the coyote is key here. The description Yori found fits Amanda perfectly. Amanda alwasy thought things through and didn’t anything until she knew the whole story!

I honestly dont have any opinon about Laure. At first she sounded untrustworthy, but then I went to a party where there was a foreign exchange student (from France no joke!) and he sat by himself the whole time. He didn’t know anybody(and his accent was just adorable!) He would just follow us around, but kept to himself.

Anyway, I’m completely stumped this time, or it might just be fatigue. Busy day today!(:

I can’t remember if Amanda assigned herself an animal totem, but coyote would totally fit her.  Slightly off topic, but I’m at a dead end. If the Paris clue was to lead us to Laure, something she’ll tell us will help find Amanda. It would’ve been easier if she was in France. We wouldn’t be able to go, but it’d be easier. lol

                • stef_stone

                  Hey guys.
Amanda did assign herself the coyote. I am rereading Invisible I for like the fifth time, and on page 69 it says:
” ‘Me? I’m the coyote. The trickster.’ She made a fist with her hand, then opened it and showed me her empty palm. ‘Now you see me, now you don’t’ “.

I so happy that everyone is helping to find Amanda - im really worried about her. Amanda was my best friend before she came Orion. She was in my schools maths class and i was really struggling in maths so Amanda offered to tudor me - i was so shocked but also really thankful!! I didn’t much friends then and Amanda seemed to be so popular even thoughshe had only been there for a week so i was really happy that Amanda wanted to be my friend. While she was tudoring me we became really good friends. We went everywhere together - shopping, cinema even just having dinner at each others houses, well when i say houses i mean my house. She never brought me over to her house, when i metioned it she just quickly changed the subject. Weird huh!?!
Anyway after about 6 months she just dissapered. Nothing.
So i came here to look for her and when i saw she wasnt here i decided to stay and help find her.

                    • themidnighter

Why call from Laure’s phone? Why not call directly to Amanda, right? I know Laure is really nice and all,but can we really trust her? Maybe that’s why Amanda went to Paris because of the person that called her. Maybe one of her relatives? It’s really hard to figure out since we don’t know which things Amanda told us are true. I’m not calling her a liar or anything,we hide things for a reason.

                      • Willow

Well, this is off topic but I think I may (or may not) have made a bit of a breakthrough on the search for Amanda! I have a huge Social Studies project on the go right now (Mr. Mueller sure knows how to make you sweat!) and I went to the local art store, The Art Room, to get some supplies. While there, I couldn’t help but wander over to the pencil section to try out some cool pencils. And, as many know I am sure, they have long strips of paper on the counter for one to try out the assorted writing tools. Well, in a lime green pencil in the upper right hand corner in Amandas writing exactly was this:

                        2398 West 14th and Glen

That, along with a tiny picture of a coyote head (is there a link?). I haven’t checked it out yet though because I am way too nervous! I feel that if Amanda really is there, Hal, Callie, and Nia should be the ones to find her.

Hope this isn’t a dead end!

                        • Yori

Nice, Willow. That might be a clue. I wish I could go to inspect but I’m still grounded and I can’t sneak out of the house again. At least now, I’m able to use the computer. (I have to thank Mr. Mueller for the project. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be able to use the computer either.)

themidnighter, you really are sharp. I had overlook that little piece of information. Why would that person call Laure instead of Amanda directly? It’s too suspicious. I mean, why go through all the trouble of getting someone’s phone number to talk to another person? Whoever that person was Amanda knew him and not only that, it gives me the impression that she was following orders. Maybe I’m wrong?

                          • Vintagedoll

I dont know if im right here but it could be that this person who called Laure’s mobile to talk to Amanda, well maybe they know Laure and so they already have her number and maybe Laure just didnt reconise their voice. Maybe this person knew that Amanda was with Laure and just didnt either have Amandas number or couldnt get through - i mean maybe she blocked their number because when she did talk to them on Laure’s mobile she seemed pretty annnoyed. I dont know - this is just a lot of maybes!

Does anybody know where 2398 West 14th and Glen actually is? if it’s Amanda’s handwriting, then OBVIOUSLY she means for it to be visited by one of us. I can’t cause i don’t know where it is and don’t get my license for another three months, but is anybody willing to give it a go?

                              • stella94

Looks like it’s either in Kansas, Texas, South Dakota or Ontario.

And hey—Amanda seems to tell a lot of people a lot of different things. Remember how she told Nia and Hal and Callie that she lived three different places? And Nia could have sworn with an uplifted hand that Amanda would have never touched coffee, but Callie and Hal watched her down it repeatedly?

Maybe that’s kinda like what the phone number is about. She somehow knew that she’d be with Laure at that point, so she gave this guy Laure’s number.

                                • crummyblaire

2399 West and Glen is an apartment building but it skips two numbers.  There is a lot of grass next to the building and i saw that on the ground there was a trap door.  What does it lead to?  Can someone go explore it.  My mom said i was grounded so i can’t go out again.

I think Laure should be trusted.  I spoke to her and she was really shy.  She asked if i knew Amanda and then she showed me that picture.  She told me that same story but she added that the guy kept calling her telling her exactly where she was.

One of my friends were really close to Amanda.  She tried the totem thing and she got the coyote.  Amanda didn’t know that though.  Amanda said she was a monkey.  She refused but kept it to her self.  When she found out that Amanda was missing she skipped school for 3 months to go to Paris and Florida.  In Paris she saw all the stickers and clues Amanda left and followed them.  She never told me what she found though which fustrurates me.  She did tell me to follow them and go under something, but then she was silent.  When she went to Florida she met a girl named Amanda who said she new Amanda and was trying to find her too.  Thats all she told me.  Hope thats helpful.

Well, like I said before, this seems to me the kind of thing Hal, Callie, and Nia should investigate. After all, what if Amanda were there? I never really spoke to her and I am afraid she would run away. But if it were Hal, Callie, and/or Nia maybe she would stick around?

Anyways, I might go have a look at the trap door just in case but I really think we should wait for the fearsome threesome!

Hey peoples I know this is a little off topic but I’ve got some information that you may find interesting. Anyways while I was at ballet class we had to to grand batmas and we could only get our legs up to ninety degrees. Anyways my ballet teachers told us a story about George Valentine anyways a very, very long time before ballet was what it is now before people could lift their legs past ninety degrees George Valentine came to france from russia. He started a dance company but wanted more then just legs up at ninety degrees. All of a suddon he got russian splits and grand jetes up to 180 degrees.
Okay so yeah I thought that you might find this information interesting. Anyways I asked my parents and they said that for christmas break I can go to france-paris to be excact for a week. Does anybody want to come with we still would have to book everything and all. Post if you wanna come.
Anyways back to the subject I dont think it matters who goes and investigates but I think that at some point Hal, Callie and Nia should investigate. Anyways I`ll go investigate after school tomorrow. Anyone wanna come with?

                                      • Kenzi

By Valentin eI actually mean Valentino… Sorry that was an accident on my part.

                                        • Yori

I’ll like to go to France and investigate but my French is extremely bad. Somehow, I think we wouldn’t find anything more in France but then again this is Amanda we’re talking about.

Maybe she left one of her journal pages there? I mean, she was being secretive about the conversation and that’s the kind of thing she would write down and then place it somewhere she would think it belong, right? Maybe we should retrace her steps in France. If she wrote anything like I’m hoping she did, maybe that will give us a clue.

                                          • Kenzi

Maybe anyways Yori I would love to have you come to France with me in December-dont worry my french is parfait (perfect) I speak french like a pro.

                                            • Yori

That’s good to know. Otherwise it would be a little problematic. We should probably ask Laure what places she and Amanda went to, don’t you think?

                                              • Kenzi

Yah I can actually ask ker in excactly seven minutes-we are in the same book club. Then we can plan out our trip.

                                                • Willow

I speak pretty fluent French, and I would love to go to France with you! I have already been to Paris three times so I know a lot of cool places.

On another note, I’ll come with you to investigate, Mackenzie. But I think for safety we should stick to just looking around the outside and not going into that trapdoor CrummyBlaire mentioned. Let me know when and where to meet you.

                                                  • Kenzi

Meet me today at the park at the Elementary school near there at
                                                    four ‘o’ clock. Okay?

Also there is something that we have forgotten through all this-Laure said that Amanda got a call through Laure’s phone. Whats up with that? |‘ve got some information too. Last night before I had bookclub I reread the Trickster Tagging part at the top of the “page” and I read the part about the phone call. Anyways I asked Laure if she still had the same phone she had when whoever it was called for Amanda-and she did. Laure unfortuantly didn’t know who it was that called her. But she let me check out her phones memory-and there was only one blocked number that she did not reconize. {removed by Cornelia’s Minions}, but when I called it there was no answer and what they said was in french. Plus I got in trouble for calling long distance (I never realized it but I get in trouble A LOT) so can somebody else call?

                                                    • jordyn125

I dont think that, that number can be the number that called Laure in France looking for Amanda because you said when you called them the people were speaking French and when Amanda was talking to them they were speaking English.

I also don’t think this can be the number because Laure said that the number appeared bolcked on her phone when she went to see who it was. So the number wouldn’t show up anyways.
Perhaps Amanda gave someone Laures number so that they could not contact her whenever they wanted, its clear that Amanda knew this person. But did she want them to have constant contact with her?

                                                      • theresaax2

If you still need more people, I’d join you in Paris. If my parents will elt me. I’ve gone on vacation with friends before, but never out of the country. lol My French doesn’t go past ballet, but I do know a lot of random word meanings. haha

I was thinking about her tagging in the subway and it reminded me of what Hal said in Invisible. That Amanda graffiti-ed the car and their lockers to bring them together. So maybe she’s tagging these places so people around the world can recognize it and band together to help find her or just help her.

                                                            • Kenzi

Are we absolutely sure that she wants us to find her?

HEY PEOPLES, so today me and Willow went to investigate. We found basically nothing but the trapdoor. So being the detective that I am after Willow went home I went in the trapdoor. I know everybody said Hal, Callie, and Nia should go through that door-but I had too! Anyways I went in and nothing but dirt surrounded me. On the floor there was a not that said in Amanda’s handwriting:
I knew somebody would find this. Anyways the purpose of this note is to tell you to leave me alone. I’m gone-and you’ll probably never see me again. Please stop the search it is a waste of time. -Amanda
What do you think? It really looked like Amanda’s handwriting-what do we do next?

                                                                • crummyblaire

You now some people can fake hand writing.

                                                                  • Kenzi

Yah thats why I was wondering what we do next. I know that we definately do not stop looking for her but what do we do in the subject of the note.

                                                                    • Willow

Mackenzie! I told you when I left for dinner specifically NOT to go in there! Jeez, I should have stayed. Anyways, that note sounds suspicious. I am not saying Amanda didn’t write it but if she was kidnapped, then a gun to her head might have persuaded her to write anything. The “kidnapper” could be trying to put us off her trail. And if that is the case, I think we should try to find her more then ever. Perhaps if Hal, Callie, and Nia took another look and used their super sleuth skills to find a hidden clue? They knew Amanda better the anyone else and they may be able to find something else.

I’ll be at the meeting on Saturday! Can’t wait to go to France, I have a good feeling about this and I know I’ll need to buy another sketchbook exclusively for the trip. Maybe I’ll take another look at the paper when I go to The Art Room. There could be something knew there.

                                                                      • Yori

This is getting weirder and weirder. It’s like someone else said (I forgot who) every time we find a clue it leads to a dead end. I really hope we find something in France. I’ll meet with you guys at Mackenzie house on Saturday. BTW, I’m starting to take my French class more seriously for the trip and taking extra lessons after school on my own too. I don’t want to be a burden for you.

                                                                        • Kenzi

Yori there is no way that you can be a burden on us! But I do think that you should do a little better in French just-in-case. Anyways my parents say that if you cannot make the meeting your parents just have to contact them in the next week. If you can make it to the meeting bring your parents-and tell them to meet their checkbooks.

                                                                          • Yori

I’ve already talked with my mom about it, it was hard but she is going to let me go. I have to pay my plane ticket though, that’s the condition she put me. That’s not problem since I have my emergencies saving and this is one.

I was looking online and found a site which is going to help me a lot. I’m gonna put my all into learning French! I’m so excited. And thank you Mackenzie, you’re words really make me feel relief. Oh, yeah, my mom can’t go but my older brother is going instead. (My mom is currently out of town.)

                                                                            • VMisMyHero

Amanda NOT want to be found?  She may not be the most straightforward chick on the block, but when you read Callie’s description you can tell that she seemed a little sad sometimes, like about having to leave, and that she really did go to a lot of trouble to bring the guides together to start this search.  But I don’t know if we really need to race all over the world to look for her, after all, if Amanda DID know about the opening in the exchange program and DID give Laure the VP’s number, maybe she brought Laure and all her info here to us on purpose.  Like don’t spend your folks hard earned cash, stay in Orion, and reap the benefits of the French girl’s intel without ever leaving your own backyard kind of thing . . .

But I wonder if the warning is about the house—stop the search for her in the house.  It could have nothing to do with her, but maybe chill on the whole house thing for few days just in case to be safe. ??

                                                                              • Kenzi

Good. Oh yah I forgot to tell you guys I was adopted, when I was ten I was adopted out of France. When I was younger I lived in orphanages and when I was eight I was in foster care but other then that I lived in orphanages. So I know many places in Paris where we can go.

                                                                                • Kenzi

I’m not going just to look for Amanda-I also want to go back home.

                                                                                  • Yori

I don’t think going to France is a bad idea. I mean, Amanda has been there so if we retrace her steps we might find something. In the worse case scenario, Mackenzie would visit her old home and the others who are going would have a good time.

I’m just thinking of this now but after Amanda left, doesn’t it feel like everyone has become closer?

                                                                                    • themidnighter

                                                                                      • Willow

It’s as if Amanda has planned out this scavengar hunt for us. Perhaps France is the end? But what will we find? After all the dead ends, I can’t help but think we won’t find Amanda, but another clue to her whereabouts.

Things are starting to get exciting!
