You’ve been babysitting overtime and saving your allowance money for good behavior—you’ve actually set a record for how many days you didn’t call your brother a complete and total tool—because you have to have a certain dress. (Mark Twain did say, after all, that “Clothes make the man. Naked people have little or no influence on society.”) You got the dress and all is well in the world. But when you show up at the dance, which is gloriously filled with state-of-the-art balloon arches, you notice that Heidi Bragg (witch) is wearing the same dress.

Sneak out the back of the gym before anyone notices and find an empty hallway, where you are completely content to pull out the copy of Pride and Prejudice tucked away in your purse. You hang there until 10 PM when your ride is coming.
Totally battle this out on the dance floor. And if you happen to accidentally step on the train of Heidi’s dress while wearing stilettos, who could blame you?
