What If? Puzzle Hunt Official Contest Rules and Regulations

OPEN TO U.S. AND CANADIAN LEGAL RESIDENTS 13 YEARS OF AGE OR OLDER.
PARENT OR LEGAL GUARDIAN PERMISSION FOR ENTRY REQUIRED FOR MINOR ENTRANTS.
CONTEST BEGINS March 1, 2010 AT 4 PM EASTERN TIME AND ENDS APRIL 9, 2010 AT 11:59 PM EASTERN TIME.

1. PRIVACY: Information collected from entrant is used only for the purpose of prize awarding, and will not be re-used, sold or shared in any manner by Sponsor. Winners’ contact information may be provided to Sponsor’s partner for purposes of prize fulfillment only. Sponsor’s partner will not re-use, sell or share any winner’s contact information.

2. ELIGIBILITY: What If? Amanda Project Clue Hunt (the “Contest”) is only open to legal residents of the 50 United States and the District of Columbia, and of Canada excluding Quebec, 13 years of age or older. Employees of Fourth Story Media and What If? Magazine, as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings and children) and household members of each such employee are not eligible to enter. Subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void in Puerto Rico and Quebec and where prohibited by law.

3. SPONSOR: Fourth Story Media, 115 South St., 4F, New York, NY 10038 ("Sponsor").

4. AGREEMENT TO OFFICIAL RULES: Entry into the Contest constitutes entrant's full and unconditional acknowledgement that he/she has read, understood and agreed to and accepted these Official Rules. Winning a prize is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements set forth herein.

5. SELECTION OF WINNER(S): Individual short puzzles (expected to take under 30 minutes to solve) will be posted on theamandaproject.com once per week, on Monday at 4 PM Eastern Time each week, for six (6) weeks during March 1, 2010 – April 9, 2010. Solving a puzzle correctly results in a sentence. Entrants will be asked to include said sentence in an original creative writing piece (250 words or less). Individual puzzles will remain posted until the following Friday at 11:59 PM Eastern Time each week.  An entrant whose email - with their creative writing piece (including the puzzle sentence) - is received at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) during each of the six (6) weeks will have their entry judged by a panel of qualified editors based on the quality of their creative writing, and the originality of their ideas. Each week one (1) entrant will be chosen by the judges to win the one (1) prize designated for that specific week. The previous week’s winners will be notified by email before the subsequent puzzle goes up at 4 PM Eastern Time the following Monday. Maximum one (1) weekly prize per person. Decisions of Sponsor are final and binding on all matters relating to this Contest.

6. PRIZES: Six (6) weekly winners, each for one of the weeks from March 1, 2010 – April 9, 2010, will receive one (1) autographed hardcover copy of the book 'Invisible I' (approximate retail value: $16.99 USD), and one (1) subscription for twelve (12) months to What If? Magazine (approximate retail value: $24.99 CAD).  Prizes are nontransferable and non-refundable and must be accepted as awarded. No cash or other substitution may be made, except by Sponsor, who reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to substitute a prize with another prize of greater or equal value in the event that a prize or portion of prize is unavailable. Winners are solely responsible for any and all applicable fees and taxes associated with prize receipt and use.

7. REQUIREMENTS OF POTENTIAL WINNERS: Entrant who is notified that he/she has been judged to be the winner is a Potential Winner. Potential Winners will be notified by email at the email address used for their entries.  Return of email as undeliverable may result in disqualification and selection of a different Potential Winner.  Potential Winner is not a winner until he/she has completed and returned all required documentation and eligibility has been verified by Sponsor. Potential Winners must comply with all terms and conditions of these Official Rules, and winning is contingent upon fulfilling all requirements. Except where prohibited, Potential Winner or, if Potential Winner is a minor in his/her state of residence, Potential Winner’s parent or legal guardian, will be required to sign and return to Sponsor an affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release, and the parent or legal guardian also must sign and return to Sponsor an indemnification, within five (5) days of receipt of notice from Sponsor in order to claim his/her prize.  If a Potential Winner or, in the case of a minor, Potential Winner’s parent or legal guardian, fails to sign and return the affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within the required time period, he/she will forfeit the prize, and an alternate Potential Winner will be selected by the panel of qualified judges.  Allow ten (10) days for shipment of prize to Winners.  All prizes will be awarded.  All entries become the property of Sponsor, will not be returned, and may be destroyed at any time.

8. PUBLICITY: Except where prohibited, participation in the Contest constitutes winner's consent to Sponsor's use of winner's name, likeness, voice, opinions, biographical information and state of residence for promotional purposes in any media without further payment or consideration.

9. GENERAL CONDITIONS: Sponsor is not liable for lost, late, incomplete, garbled, misdirected, or illegible entries.  Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual they find to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Contest or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to deliberately undermine the legitimate operation of the Contest may be a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Sponsor's failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.  Sponsor reserves the right to cancel or suspend this Contest at any time without notice should a virus, bug or any cause beyond the reasonable control of Sponsor or other factor corrupt the security or proper administration of the Contest.

10. RELEASE: By participating, entrants or, in the case of minors, their parents or legal guardians, agree to be bound by these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor and waive any right to claim ambiguity in the Contest or these Official Rules. Entrants or, inthe case of minors, their parents or legal guardians, also agree to release, discharge, indemnify and hold harmless the Sponsor and all prize providers, and the officers, directors, employees and agents of each, from and against any claims, damages or liability due to any injuries, damages or losses to any person (including death) or property of any kind resulting in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, from the Contest, entries, acceptance, possession, misuse or use of any prize or participation in the Contest or any related activity, including any claims relating to use, misappropriation or disclosure of any materials submitted by such winner or entrant. Decisions of Sponsor are final in all matters relating to the Contest.

11. LIMITATIONS OF LIABILITY: Sponsor is not responsible for any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by entrants, printing errors or by any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Contest or by any technical or human error which may occur in the processing of submissions in the Contest. Sponsor is not responsible for any error, omission, interruption, deletion, defect, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of, entries. Sponsor is not responsible for any problems or technical malfunction of any telephone network or lines, telephone equipment, computer on-line-systems, servers or providers, computer equipment, software or failure of email on account of technical problems or traffic congestion on the Internet or at any website or combination thereof, including injury or damage to entrant's or to any other person's computer and/or telephone related to or resulting from participating in the Contest.  In the event of a dispute as to the identity of an entrant, entries will be deemed to have been submitted by the authorized account holder of the email address used in the entry.

12. DISPUTES: Except where prohibited, all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the entrant and Sponsor in connection with the Contest, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the United States of America and the State of New York, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules (whether of the the United States of America and the State of New York, or any other jurisdiction), which would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the United States of America and the the State of New York.

13. WINNERS’ LIST: To receive a list of the names of winner(s), please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope, specifying the What If? Amanda Project Clue Hunt, to The Amanda Project Giveaways, c/o Ariel Aberg-Riger, 115 South St, 4F, New York, NY 10038, before December 31, 2010.  The winners also will be posted at http://www.theamandaproject.com.
