Hey, inkpop peeps!
Most of you know me because of my occasional sappy poem and my art in the gallery (I’m a sketch master), but what you DON’T know is that I’m a major writer.
I have a complete book that I wrote on a HarperCollins website called inkpop (www.inkpop.com), and every month five books are chosen to reviewed by the Editorial Board at HarperCollins, depending on their rank. For example, number one is the best spot. I was once at forty thousand, now I’m number four.
So, yay me, this month What Goes Up (my book) was chosen!
If you want to go check it out, follow the link and tell me what you think:

Thanks for your support, guys!

Whoa, great job! Even if I have no clue what inkpop is xD.

      • AlexInvisible

ha ha, thank you so much cutedramatic
        @mary-dee
inkpop is a place where amateur writers put their stuff, and it’s ranked by other members, and basically you try and get the best ranking in the top five so that at the end of the month the five projects are taken off the site to be reviewed by HarperCollins.

        • Mary-Dee

          Coolio!

I just read the summary of your story, since I’m too stupid to figure out how to get to teh actual story (xD), and it sounds awesome! I’m assuming you write your own summaries? Lolz.

          • Cutedramatic

i can;t read it cuz im on a school issued CPU and they block inkpop///but i promise ill read it later

            • AlexInvisible

sweet- thanks for checking it out
and grrr about the CPU. It’s not like inkpop is a bad site. But then again, school computers are always so safety conscious. :)

              • Cutedramatic

                YOU ARE TELLING ME!!!

                • AlexInvisible

@ Mary-Dee… ha ha, it’s on the right hand side of the page, it say “view project” and you click on that. :)
                  thanks for checking it out!
And yes, I do write my own summaries. It’s actually a lot harder than you’d think!

                  • Mary-Dee

Eek, since I’m already imagining that to be quite difficult… lolz.

                    • AlexInvisible

Did it work? And then, if you feel like reading it, the buttons on the bottom of the page with numbers are the different chapters. :)

                      • Mary-Dee

I feel like an idiot xD>. Yes, it did work.

                        • Missparkles

Ahhh, when I saw your streetcorner picture, I went to look at your other stuff, and I saw the link to that. I read part of it. It’s awesome! Congrats on getting reviewed!

                          • Laurel

WOW! OMG I wish I could be bothered to write a book! But I will start and think of something else and do that? I always swap my ideas all the time! Soooo annoying!
Congrats on achievement and hopefully, I will soon be buying your book of the store shelf??!!

                            • Everlasting

                              wow thats awesome well done!

                              • Everlasting

wow the book sounds amazing how did you get it published?

                                • Everlasting

wait can i read the book on the website?

                                  • AlexInvisible

                                    @ silent-Seas
yes, you can read the book… just go to the right hand side of the page and see “view project” (after you click on the link and it takes you to the page) and then the numbers at the top and bottom, the green numbers, are chapter numbers
And, no, ha ha, it’s not published! HarperCollins is just looking at it and giving me feedback. :)

                                    • Mary-Dee

Of course, though, AlexI, if HarperCollins likes it enough, wouldn’t it be possible to get it published? xD.

                                      • AlexInvisible

                                        mm, maybe!

                                        • Everlasting

wow it sounds amazing im SO gonna read it!

                                          • AlexInvisible

thanks silent-seas! Let me known what you think!

                                            • nucamac

woa hold up i thought you needed an agent to even submit a manuscript!!!!!!! do you have one??

sorry my friend and i are trying to publish a book also and we really wante to go with harper collins but we couldnt figure it out cus we can’t afford an agent

                                              • AlexInvisible

@nucamac- you do. Most publishers don’t accept unsolicited manuscripts. No, I don’t have an agent. That’s the beauty of Inkpop. If your stuff makes it to the top five, then you’re basically your own agent online.
Also- you shouldn’t be paying an agent. If they ask for money up front- run.
The way an agent makes money is that they work with you to basically “Sell the rights” of your manuscript to a publisher for the most amount of money, because they get a cut. Somewhere from seven to ten percent of the total, I think. So, obviously, they want to sell it for as much money as possible, right? That’s the logical thing to do. Which, in turn, gives YOU more money. So you shouldn’t be paying an agent anything- it’s their job to make the money. You just wrote the book. :)
Message me if you’ve got any more questions, I’ve gone to lectures and taken classes on this stuff. It’s fun being the only sixteen year old in a group of people in their fifties. :)

                                                • Mary-Dee

Lolz, AlexI (can I call yew that?). I’d find that rather intimidating, but okay, fun I guess CAN be another word for that situation xDD.

I finished reading your story – it’s awesome! Couldn’t help but note the similarities it shares with Maximum Ride, though… or is that just meh?

                                                  • AlexInvisible

                                                    @Mary-Dee
Sure, ha ha, that’s fine. :)
                                                    Thanks! Glad you liked it!
And… Maximum Ride? By James Patterson?
Hmm… yeah, I can see it. I mean, both girl leads who kick butt and can fly. Other than that, though, I don’t know. I mean, are you saying we have the same writing style or the same plotlines?
                                                    Let me know! :)

                                                    • Mary-Dee

I mean, and mebbe this is connecting invisible lines, but they both call themselves “flying mutant freaks,” or things like that xD. Since you’ve obviously read the series, mebbe you just subconsciously adopted that line for Morgan as well? shrug

                                                      • AlexInvisible

                                                        @Mary-Dee
maybe. Never doubt the power of the subconscious, eh?
I stopped reading recently. James Patterson should have stopped at Saving the World and Other Extreme Sports. Didn’t read ANGEL- FANG sucked. Max is getting sloppy and confused.
                                                        Anywho, thanks!

                                                        • ZoeElise

I want to write a book, but I never finish, like for Netune’s Ring, I cannot think about what to put in chapter 3. If I can’t get past chapter 3, I will never be an author

                                                          • AlexInvisible

                                                            @zoeelise- don’t worry :)
I find it helps if I write out some sort of plotline before I start writing, and then I just fill in the details from there. Write the scenes you feel like writing. The end scene. A fight scene. Some scene of high action or intensity or emotion. Then decide where it goes, like putting in a puzzle piece. Then say to yourself, “Well, how did my characters get HERE?” And then go from there. Tell the story. Fill it in.
Find something that inspires you. For me, it’s definitely movies. Or movie soundtracks- songs without words are the best, especially for action movies. Hans Zimmer is a good one.
Don’t think that you have to write your chapters in order. I didn’t. If you’re stuck on something, just skip it and move on.
If you can’t write ANYTHING, then here’s what you do. Lock the door. Turn off the music, tv, anything that distracts you. Then write something. I don’t care if it’s not good. If it sucks, that’s fine. Keep writing. Then, later, go back and edit it. But try to at least write a full page or two.
Any more Qs? Ha ha, feel free to message me if you’ve got any more.

Yes, those are some of my favorites as well….
