Suddenly part of the object in front of her popped open, and I watched as a strange thing fell out of it. It kept making weird sounds. It moved around, flipping itself over. It made a moaning sound, and part of it came up and rubbed the top of it.
It’s top sviweled sharply towards me, and I gasped. Now it was making different sounds.
“Hello.” It made a strange noise.
“What is it?” I wondered aloud in my own language.
“Oh, good, you have a language.”
What is it?! Where did it come from?! Certainly not from here!” I was beginning to panic. What was this- this thing and what did it want?
Another part of it moved towards its middle and pulled a rectangular object from a pouch. The part that had moved began to poke at the object. Finally, it stopped and held the object near me.
“What is this? What’s happening?!” I yelled. I continued to yell at the thing that was eerily similar to myself, and my voice was growing continually louder and more shrill until my throat hurt and I couldn’t yell anymore.
Then it started to speak.
“Hello, my name is Paul,” it said.
“What does Paul mean?” I asked without thinking.
“It’s a name, something to identify yourself, apart from others,” it- Paul- answered promptly. “Are you alright? Does your throat hurt from the yelling?”
“What are you?” I asked, calming down a bit.
“I am a human. So are you. That’s why we look similar. I’m not going to hurt you. I understand you are waiting for something.” Paul said.
“How did you know?” I was frightened.
He paused. “It’s hard to explain. I’ll tell you once we get the others.This-” he then pointed to the large thing he fell out of- “ is the Beetle. I’m going to need you to come with me. Is that okay?”
“Okay,” I said shakily. I gingerly climbed into “The Beetle”. It was hollow, but there wasn’t enough space to sit. I carefully crouched onto a spot that wasn’t covered in buttons and levers.
I squeezed my eyes shut as tightly as I could, and I shuddered. I was so afraid, but I was also curious. Curious of what was to come, what I had been waiting for all this time.
Sorry I haven’t been on in like A MONTH, but I got a different computer. The old one didn’t work very well. I didn’t get the chance to go to the library because I had gone to Schuler’s and bought like A MILLION books. Every time I asked to go, my mom would say, “Why do you need more books? You’ve got SO MANY to read!” Ugh. I just about died. But I’m back now.
